Cedar Patio Cover and Outdoor Kitchen in Northwest San Antonio
By Kyle Brooks ·

This northwest San Antonio backyard already had a pool, but nowhere shaded to cook or gather near the water. We built a cedar-post patio cover off the back of the house with a stained wood ceiling and a white stone outdoor kitchen and bar, so the family has shade, a TV, and a place to cook a few steps from the pool.

Shade and a Place to Cook Beside the Pool in Northwest San Antonio
A pool pulls everyone outside, but without shade or a place to cook, the party keeps drifting back indoors. The homeowners wanted a covered spot right off the house where they could grill, eat, and watch the game while keeping an eye on the pool.

A Cedar Patio Cover and Stone Outdoor Kitchen
An attached patio cover with heavy cedar posts and knee braces set on white stone bases. The roof matches the house, and the underside is a stained tongue-and-groove ceiling with recessed lights and ceiling fans. It's built the way we approach all our San Antonio patio covers: sized to the space and finished so it looks like it was always part of the home.

Under the cover sits a white stone outdoor kitchen with a dark countertop, a built-in grill, stainless appliances, and a raised bar with stool seating. A Texas star set into the stone adds a personal touch. We plan our outdoor kitchens in San Antonio around how people actually cook and gather, and this one puts the grill, prep space, and bar seating in one easy run.

A Covered Outdoor Kitchen Steps From the Pool
Shade, a TV, and a full outdoor kitchen, all a few steps from the pool. The patio becomes a natural gathering spot, whether it's a weekend cookout or a quiet evening outside. Curious how a project like this comes together? Here's how our process works.

Cedar Patio Cover and Outdoor Kitchen Questions
Can an outdoor kitchen go under a patio cover?
Yes. This one sits fully under the cover, so the grill, counters, and bar seating stay out of the sun and rain, and ceiling fans keep air moving while you cook.
Will a patio cover match my house?
It should. Here the roof matches the house, and the cedar posts sit on white stone bases that tie into the outdoor kitchen, so the cover looks like part of the home.
Can you add lights, fans, and a TV to a patio cover?
Yes. This cover has recessed lights, ceiling fans, and a TV wall built in, so the space works for game day and evenings, not just midday shade.
